TWO cabinet secretaries visited a disabled children\u2019s charity in Edinburgh, as the SNP highlighted its new policies for extended childcare.<\/p>\n

Jenny Gilruth, Cabinet Secretary for Education, and Angus Robertson<\/a>, Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture, met parents and children at The Yard, a disabled children\u2019s charity in the Canonmills area of Edinburgh on Friday (APR 3).<\/p>\n

Robertson is also the MSP for Edinburgh Central, where the charity is located, and is running for reelection to the Scottish Parliament in the upcoming Holyrood elections.<\/p>\n

Joining the pair was Councillor Euan Hyslop, who represents the Drum Brae\/Gyle Ward and is running in the Edinburgh Northern constituency. <\/p>\n

Earlier on Friday, the SNP highlighted their pledge that families seeking extended childcare will be set to \u201cbenefit from between \u00a31,400 up to over \u00a311,000 dependent on need\u201d<\/a>, should the party be re-elected to Holyrood.<\/p>\n

The three politicians played with children at the centre, after which they met with parents who discussed how childcare issues is affecting them.<\/p>\n

In an interview during the event, Robertson said: \u201cThis is the first time that I\u2019ve been here, and I have been very moved, especially in conversation with the parents of kids who come here, for whom this is clearly transformational in their children, having really important experiences and fun in ways that they can\u2019t find in other childcare settings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes me, as the parent of two young children, acutely aware that different parents and different children have different needs and different requirements for help and support.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy big takeaway is that we make sure that as we want to roll out an even bigger childcare provision for families, for children, for carers, that we have to bear very much in mind the full range of requirements that there are for different children and different parents and different settings. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot that we can learn from here about what is required here and across Scotland. It really is quite something.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Yard also has locations in Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow, and Kirkcaldy.<\/p>\n

Children with disabilities are able to take part in various activities both indoors and outdoors, fitting the needs of the children.<\/p>\n

For children with sensory issues, the Edinburgh centre has a sensory room.<\/p>\n
