Disney\u2019s newest attempt to turn one of its animated classics into a live-action hit is already taking heat from fans \u2014 similar to the \u201cSnow White\u201d fiasco that embroiled the entertainment giant earlier this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cLilo & Stitch\u201d has sparked concern among Disney fans after its director, Dean Fleischer Camp, revealed he tried to keep an iconic moment from the cartoon original, but it was seemingly left out.<\/p>\n
The latest issue for Disney began when Camp posted a TikTok<\/a> on Monday answering fans\u2019 questions about the release of the iconic franchise\u2019s new trailer.<\/p>\n Camp said that he received feedback on whether one of the film\u2019s main antagonists, Pleakley, would be disguised in a dress and wig while hunting down Stitch, as the 2002 cartoon portrayed.<\/p>\n \u201cI have had people message me, \u2018Why is Pleakley not wearing a dress?\u2019 And I just want to say, I tried\u2026 I tried,\u201d Camp appeared to painstakingly reveal.<\/p>\n This image released by Disney shows the character Stitch, left, and Maia Kealoha, as Lilo, in a scene from \u201cLilo & Stitch.\u201d AP<\/p>\n Camp shared what looked to be a concept drawing he had made for the two-tongued, one-eyed extraterrestrial\u00a0for his live-action film, donning a red wig and a blue floral dress.<\/p>\n In the sci-fi comedy, Agent Pleakley and his partner Dr. Jumba Jookiba are on a mission to hunt down Stitch after he escapes to Earth and lands in Hawaii, befriending Lilo, who quickly adopts him, believing that he\u2019s a dog and not a genetic alien experiment.<\/p>\n Throughout the film, Pleakley and Jumba are forced to wear disguises to blend in with the humans around them as they hunt for Stitch, with Pleakley opting to dress as a woman tourist wearing different wigs and dresses.<\/p>\n However, in the live-action trailer for Camp\u2019s film, Pleakley (played by \u201cThe Many Saints of Newark\u201d actor Billy Magnussen) and Jumba (Zach Galifianakis) are both disguised as men.<\/p>\n Blowback against the director\u2019s revelation echoes troubles Disney faced for \u201cSnow White\u201d<\/a> and using CGI (computer-generated images) to portray the iconic film\u2019s seven dwarfs. <\/p>\n \u201cSnow White\u201d went on to bomb at the box office, grossing $69 million domestically and $145 million worldwide, falling far short of the $410 million it cost to make the film.<\/p>\n The movie was also mired in several other controversies, including star\u00a0Rachel Zegler\u2019s\u00a0comments deriding Israel, Donald Trump, and Disney<\/a>.<\/p>\n Disney\u2019s live-action remakes have faced criticism from fans over recent years. <\/p>\n In the 2016 remake of \u201cThe Jungle Book,\u201d fans were upset that King Louie had been changed from an orangutan to a gigantopithecus since orangutans are not native to India, according to Comic Book Resources<\/a>. <\/p>\n In 2019, Disney opted to remove beloved \u201cMulan\u201d dragon sidekick Mushu and the grandiose musical numbers from the live-action film<\/p>\n
