{"id":873438,"date":"2026-04-05T09:43:32","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T09:43:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/873438\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T09:43:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T09:43:32","slug":"harrow-now-part-of-12bn-nhs-shake-up-affecting-millions-across-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/873438\/","title":{"rendered":"Harrow now part of \u00a312bn NHS shake-up affecting millions across London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>England\u2019s largest NHS integrated care board serving 4.5 million people across 13 London boroughs including Harrow has officially been launched \u2013 in an effort to streamline services and reduce costs.<\/p>\n<p>The new NHS West and North London Integrated Care Board (WNL ICB) was formally launched during its inaugural meeting today (Wednesday 1st), following decisions made last year by the former North Central London and North West London ICBs to merge.<\/p>\n<p>The enlarged ICB will now be responsible for planning around \u00a312billion of spending every year on NHS primary care services across Barnet, <a href=\"https:\/\/harrowonline.org\/tag\/Brent\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent<\/a>, Camden, Ealing, Enfield, Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, <a href=\"https:\/\/harrowonline.org\/tag\/Harrow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harrow<\/a>, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster boroughs.<\/p>\n<p>The new WNL ICB claims the merger will allow for an increased focus on \u201cstrategic\u201d investment and commissioning decisions \u201cto shape long-term redesign of services and help local people live healthier, longer lives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It further says the creation of the new ICB \u201cfollows months of detailed and complex work by colleagues across both organisations\u201d including \u201clarge scale\u201d consultations as well as voluntary redundancy schemes.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the meeting, the new care board\u2019s interim CEO Katie Fisher said it had been an \u201cimpossibly difficult year\u201d for many ICB staff, both locally and nationally, adding: \u201cWe\u2019re right at the sharp end of that now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the redundancies happening as a result of the merger, she said: \u201cWe have many, many colleagues who we are starting to say goodbye to through voluntary redundancy processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a lot more staff who will be leaving at the end of April and then the remainder of those staff are absolutely going through processes of applying for jobs and understanding what their personal futures are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-128187\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/0-3.jpg\" alt=\"Harrow now part of \u00a312bn NHS shake-up affecting millions across London Harrow Online\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"   title=\"Harrow now part of \u00a312bn NHS shake-up affecting millions across London Harrow Online\"\/>NHS West and North London Integrated Care Board (WNL ICB) logo. (Credit: NHS WNL ICB)<\/p>\n<p>Fisher said it was key the redundancies would be done with \u201ckindness\u201d and \u201ccompassion\u201d and that \u201cwhatever individual outcomes are for people that they can hold their heads up high with dignity, proud of the enormous contribution they\u2019ve made to their communities and to the NHS over many, many decades and years of service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Until four years ago, each <a href=\"https:\/\/harrowonline.org\/tag\/London\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a> borough had its own clinical commissioning group led by GPs, but these were replaced by ICBs covering large groups of boroughs in 2022, before the latest merger of local NHS bodies affecting north and west London was agreed last year.<\/p>\n<p>In a further statement Mike Bell, chair of the new WNL ICB, said: \u201cWhile today marks a significant milestone, it is not a point of completion.
