Beyond Paradise lead actor Kris Marshall has addressed \u201ccomplaints\u201d from viewers about the programme. The 52-year-old returned to his role as DI Humphrey Goodman for the Death in Paradise spin-off in 2022.<\/p>\n
Since then, he has completed filming four series of the programme, following his original three-series stint on Death in Paradise before his 2017 departure, when Ardal O\u2019Hanlon took over as the principal detective. Ardal later left after three series, with Ralf Little and Don Gilet stepping into the leading role.<\/p>\n
Beyond Paradise has achieved remarkable success since its debut, attracting millions of viewers. The show has also gained international traction, captivating audiences in North America, Canada, and Australia.<\/p>\n
During an appearance on the TV Reload podcast, presenter Benjamin Morris revealed that Australian viewers had raised concerns about the show. In conversation with Kris in 2025, Morris noted: \u201cYou’re on a show now that’s so popular that when I was doing the research for this, there were people in Australia complaining, ‘We’re delayed’, I can’t remember what exact time. You know you’re on a good show when the complaint is, ‘We ain’t getting it fast enough\u2019,\u201d reports the Mirror.<\/p>\n

Kris responded: \u201cI’ve read a couple of those complaints myself. I think the last series, season three, ended about two or three weeks ago, so a few weeks behind the UK but not too much really, and we will begin filming again soon.\u201d He subsequently admitted he was worried he had \u201cdropped another spoiler\u201d once more, following his confession that he regularly gets into trouble with production staff for revealing too many details about the programme.<\/p>\n
\u201cI get into trouble about it all the time, honestly. I’ve had so many dressings down behind closed doors with the amount of spoilers I’m dropping. I need more media training or something,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n

Marshall also reflected on his experience filming Death in Paradise, noting that production on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe meant extended time away from loved ones. By contrast, Beyond Paradise shoots in Devon and Cornwall, allowing him to return home every fortnight.<\/p>\n
\u201cActually, I love it. I get the beauty of seeing my family every other weekend, but then I also get the solitude I enjoy at the end of a really hard working week. I rent the same place every year in a wonderful village near where Beyond Paradise is filmed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s on a beach that isn’t touristy because it’s quite rocky, but it\u2019s got a wonderful little surf break there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor also explained how the location benefits his wellbeing: \u201cI was a big surfer growing up. I wasn’t particularly good, but I loved it. I did it all over the world for fun. I love the sea. So every morning before work, I’m in the sea. I’m in the sea after work. I go hiking up on the Moors.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a huge part of who I am. We talk a lot about mental health these days and how the great outdoors is so good for your mental health. When you’re on a big shoot like Beyond Paradise, which is 70 hours a week for 23 weeks straight, one after the other, while it looks and is bucolic and lovely, it\u2019s also quite hard work.
