Glasgow’s West End is one of the best areas in Scotland if you’re looking for a good night out. It boasts dozens of brilliant bars<\/a> and there’s really something for everyone.<\/p>\n

So how do you decide which one you want to go to when there’s such a huge choice? Well, what about one that featured in a legendary scene from an iconic movie?<\/p>\n

That’s what sets this week’s Pub of the Week apart from its rivals, both near and far. The BrewHaus can be found on Queen Margaret Drive, just a few minutes’ walk from both Byres Road and Great Western Road, two of Glasgow’s<\/a> main thoroughfares.<\/p>\n

Previously known as Crosslands, it was part of a key scene in Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting<\/a> in 1996. Francis Begbie, played by Robert Carlyle<\/a>, is regaling his pals with a tale of his pool expertise and tough guy antics before draining his drink and tossing the glass over the balcony.<\/p>\n

A woman in the downstairs area screams while covered in blood and Begbie makes his way down, proclaiming: “Nobody move. That lassie got glassed and no c**t leaves here ’til we find out what c**t did it!” before starting a huge fight.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, The BrewHaus is not the sort of place for a barroom brawl, though it is proud of its Trainspotting heritage and has vibrant and colourful murals about the movie on its walls. In between Crosslands and BrewHaus, it was briefly known as Franco’s, a nod to Begbie’s nickname.<\/p>\n

Although the bar delights in proclaiming itself “the pub from Trainspotting”, it really is so much more – and that’s why it is so popular. It has everything you want from a city bar; a good atmosphere, wide range of drinks, tasty food, welcoming staff, sport on the TV, quiz nights and live music, and more.<\/p>\n

Possibly the jewel in its crown, outside of the obvious movie link, is its incredible beer garden. The BrewHaus’ outside area boasts more than 20 benches, with another mural running along one wall, and it also has five outdoor huts.<\/p>\n

These unique cabins can seat up to eight people with table service direct from the bar, and they also have heaters that mean you can enjoy an al fresco pint while keeping a bit warmer than in your standard beer garden.<\/p>\n

The bar’s drink selection is wide and varied, with craft beers<\/a>, classic world lagers, and ciders on draught and in bottles. And the recent addition of an Aspall tap went down well with this writer. There are also cocktails, wines, spirits, and shots – as well as mocktails and low or no alcohol options for teetotallers and designated drivers.<\/p>\n

Their food menu contains Trainspotting-themed pizzas, as well as burgers, pub classics, paninis, and bar snacks, while there is also a kids’ menu. The family friendly venue allows accompanied children until 9pm every night, and dogs are allowed too until 8pm in the bar and 10pm in the beer garden.<\/p>\n

For sports fans, there are several TVs throughout the venue, including one outside and there is usually some sporting action on the box. It is also a popular spot on matchdays for Partick Thistle<\/a> fans before and after their trips to nearby Firhill Stadium.<\/p>\n

Anyone who prefers to take part in their sports can have a few rounds of pool or games of darts in the upstairs balcony, which can also be hired out for private events. If you’re up there, you can sit right where Begbie chucked his glass – though re-enactments are not encouraged.<\/p>\n

There is a regular quix and often live music playing, so The BrewHaus really does have something for everyone. Its location, close to Byres Road, Great Western Road, and Maryhill Road, means buses, taxis, and the Subway aren’t far away for getting there or heading home.<\/p>\n

It’s a short walk from the Botanic Gardens and the Kelvin Walkway, making it an ideal stop during any day trip to the leafy West End. And Trainspotting isn’t its only claim to fame, Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi<\/a> was a patron while staying in his nearby flat.<\/p>\n

The vibrant atmosphere and great drinks selection make this a must-visit when in the area, especially for any film buffs. And with spring well underway and summer approaching, the beer garden might just be one of the best spots in the city.<\/p>\n
