{"id":878024,"date":"2026-04-07T13:37:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/878024\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T13:37:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:37:19","slug":"hannah-reaches-the-heights-to-raise-5k-for-wheatfields-hospice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/878024\/","title":{"rendered":"Hannah reaches the heights to raise \u00a35k for Wheatfields Hospice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Leeds fundraiser Hannah\u00a0Park has taken on her biggest challenge yet\u00a0\u2013 climbing\u00a0Snowdon to raise funds for a hospice which gave her dad \u201chis life back\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Hannah\u2019s\u00a0dad, Chris, was diagnosed with mesothelioma last year. When his pain became severe and impossible to manage at home,\u00a0Sue Ryder\u00a0Nurses supported the family through weeks of trialling different medications. <\/p>\n<p>Eventually, they recommended a short stay at the hospice for specialist symptom management,\u00a0something Hannah says the family\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0realise hospices like Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice offered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople hear the word hospice and think you go in and never come out,\u201d she said. \u201cBut my dad went in for medical care. They\u00a0monitored\u00a0him, tried different drugs, and got his pain under control. He came home feeling more like the dad we knew. None of us had a clue\u00a0hospices\u00a0did that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"675\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Hannah-with-her-sister-climbing-new-heights-for-Sue-Ryder-675x900.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-200865\"  \/>Hannah Park with her sister, Rox, climbing new heights for Sue Ryder.<\/p>\n<p>Chris spent four weeks at\u00a0Sue Ryder\u00a0Wheatfields\u00a0Hospice\u00a0while the team worked to stabilise his symptoms.\u00a0Hannah said the team made it feel like a \u201chome from home\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad\u2019s a big, strong man, and seeing him like that was\u00a0really tough. But the staff were unreal with all of us.\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0sit with him, watch football on his iPad, have a beer, and\u00a0they\u2019d\u00a0pop in to see if we needed anything. It felt normal,\u00a0and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0all you want in a moment like that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the\u00a0care\u00a0her dad received,\u00a0Hannah \u2013 who has worked at Grumpy\u2019s in Farsley for seven years \u2013 decided she wanted to take on something physically and emotionally challenging\u00a0to give back to the hospice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d\u00a0never done anything like this before. I wanted something tough, something that would really mean something. When\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0struggling on that mountain,\u00a0I was thinking of my dad and my friend Kelly, who we lost to cancer recently.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0what got me up there.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hannah trained for months, tackling Yorkshire peaks and long weekend hikes.\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0raised more than\u00a0\u00a35,000,\u00a0a total she says she never expected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe support has blown me away.\u00a0Everyone who has supported and donated have left such kind words about my\u00a0dad. It shows how much people think of him.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0been overwhelming in the best way.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about how the hike went, Hannah said:\u00a0\u201cSnowdon is complete,\u00a0and I still\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0quite believe we did it. It was a massive challenge for me. I only started walking last spring, and nothing\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0done before came close to this.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe views were unreal, but the climb was tough, and there were moments when I\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0think\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0make it physically. But mentally I was so determined, and having Rox by my side kept me going. When we finally saw the summit,\u00a0way up in the sky,\u00a0we just pushed each other and got there.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m\u00a0so incredibly proud of us both.
