{"id":878546,"date":"2026-04-07T19:13:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T19:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/878546\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T19:13:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T19:13:14","slug":"persistent-dust-pollution-hotline-launched-for-tilbury-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/878546\/","title":{"rendered":"Persistent dust pollution hotline launched for Tilbury residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Michael Dineen, the assistant director for community protection and enforcement services at the council, described the problem as a priority in a <a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.thurrock.gov.uk\/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=488&amp;MId=6807\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">place overview and scrutiny committee meeting, external<\/a> on Thursday, 26 March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The issue with nuisance dust has been longstanding,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve brought everyone around the table to try to find some solutions, and establishing a single point of contact for residents is an important step.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Meetings have already taken place between the council and the Environment Agency, Port Authority, Port Health and public health officials. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">From this, the Environment Agency has committed to stationing a permanent staff member at Tilbury Port, whereas the Port Health Authority will supply three part-time officers to monitor issues. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/lnp\/ldrs\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Local Democracy Reporting Service<\/a> said the agencies will meet quarterly to track progress. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Previously, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cddm85mqp71o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">residents have blamed the town&#8217;s port<\/a> for the ongoing problem with dust covering their homes and cars, and the Port of Tilbury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cddm85mqp71o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in October<\/a> that it &#8220;takes its responsibilities as a business and neighbour seriously&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We adhere to all statutory environmental requirements and, in Tilbury2 specifically, we have all required dust suppression systems in place across the site.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Discussions took place last year to determine whether a new dust analysis should be commissioned following complaints that port facility Tilbury2 had increased dust levels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Dineen said: &#8220;If regulations aren&#8217;t working or aren&#8217;t being adhered to, my officers will be speaking with the Environment Agency.
