Manchester United defender Tyler Fredricson\u2019s night for the under-21s did not end as he would have wanted.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A year ago Tyler Fredricson<\/a> was making his debut for Manchester United\u2019s first team. In 2025\/26<\/a>, opportunities have been tougher to come by.<\/p>\n

Fredricson was due to go out on loan<\/a> in January, before an injury in the under-21s Premier League International Cup against Sporting wrecked his chances of a move. Celtic were among the interested clubs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Recently, Fredricson returned to fitness and he was part of the under-21s side that took on Real Madrid<\/a> in the quarter-final of the same competition where he suffered the earlier injury.<\/p>\n

Fredricson was unable to complete the game after suffering another injury.<\/p>\n

Despite a 4-2 loss, there were plenty of performances worth being excited about.<\/p>\n

Tyler Fredricson was forced off with an injury midway through the second half with Manchester United leading 2-1.<\/p>\n

Real Madrid went on to win the game 4-2, and Fredricson\u2019s experience was missed especially in extra-time.<\/p>\n

The extent of Fredricson\u2019s injury is unclear. He will be frustrated enough that it forced him out of a big under-21s knockout tie.<\/p>\n

If the injury causes the 21-year-old to miss further time this season, it will be an even bigger blow.<\/p>\n

But there was a more seismic impact for Fredricson\u2019s future earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

Harry Maguire new deal impacts Fredricson<\/p>\n

Experienced Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has signed a new contract extension<\/a> that could keep him at the club until 2028.<\/p>\n

Maguire\u2019s deal was set to expire<\/a> this summer. His exit would have removed one of Fredricson\u2019s obstacles to the first team.<\/p>\n

The problem for Fredricson this season has been that he has been sixth choice.<\/p>\n

With Maguire gone, and midfield a top priority in the transfer market<\/a>, there would have been an opportunity for Fredricson to really stand out in pre-season, and try and become United\u2019s extra centre-back.<\/p>\n

Now with Maguire staying, it looks like there the competition for places will be equally tough next season.<\/p>\n

The only aspect in Fredricson\u2019s favour is the extra games, which could mean rotation and a need for a deeper squad with injuries.<\/p>\n

The best outcome for Fredricson would still be a loan move, and a permanent sale cannot be ruled out either if United receive a tempting offer.<\/p>\n
