{"id":879823,"date":"2026-04-08T09:15:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T09:15:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/879823\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T09:15:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T09:15:15","slug":"family-pay-tribute-to-british-teenager-killed-in-motorcycle-crash-in-vietnam-uk-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/879823\/","title":{"rendered":"Family pay tribute to British teenager killed in motorcycle crash in Vietnam | UK news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The family of a British teenager have paid tribute to their daughter who died after a motorcycle crash on a popular route in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/vietnam\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vietnam<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The incident occurred on the Ha Giang loop in the country\u2019s north, and Orla Wates, 19, died at the Viet Duc university hospital in Hanoi, according to Viet Nam News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed its consular staff were supporting Wates\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Her parents, Andrew and Henrietta Wates, told Viet Nam News: \u201cOrla was beautiful, independent and very funny, with a sharp wit. She loved to look good and lived life to the full.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Her mother thanked the hospital and its ICU team for caring for Orla, and said her organs had been donated to save others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">She said: \u201cAt this extremely difficult time for our family, we chose to donate Orla\u2019s organs, as we believe that if there were a way to give opportunity to others, this is what Orla would have wanted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cKnowing that she is living on through them brings us great comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orla Wates was taken to the Viet Duc university hospital in Hanoi, where she died. Photograph: VDUH<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In an interview shared on the hospital\u2019s social media page, her father said: \u201cVietnam was a country she loved and so to give back to Vietnam as well I think is very important for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Her mother added: \u201cShe had the best time here, she had the best time here, she was loving every minute of it. So it is our way of thanking you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Ha Giang loop is a road trip of about 220 miles (350km) that winds through the Vietnamese mountains near the border with China.<\/p>\n<p>A section of the Ha Giang loop.
