\n\tRaine Allen-Miller<\/a> has tapped Vivian Oparah<\/a>, the breakout and BAFTA nominated star of the writer\/director\u2019s hugely acclaimed debut feature \u201cRye Lane,\u201d to lead the cast of her second film \u201cThe Roots Man\u0153uvre, Variety can reveal.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlongside Oparah, Toni Collette<\/a> (\u201cHereditary,\u201d \u201cMuriel\u2019s Wedding\u201d), Paterson Joseph (\u201cWonka,\u201d \u201cPeep Show\u201d), Jessica Henwick<\/a> (\u201cGlass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,\u201d \u201cMatrix: Resurrections\u201d), Little Simz (\u201cTop Boy\u201d), and Thomas Turgoose (\u201cThis Is England,\u201d \u201cMickey 17\u201d) have also joined the cast of the London-set heist comedy, due for theatrical release with Amazon MGM Studio\u2019 Orion Pictures. <\/p>\n

\n\tProducers include Plan B\u2019s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, and Damian Jones of DJ Films. The film will be produced in association with BBC Film, with Eva Yates as an executive producer.<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom a script by Allen-Miller, \u201cThe Roots Man\u0153uvre\u201d follows a young woman who orchestrates a daring heist to recover a stolen artifact, covering her tracks by managing the whirlwind of a luxury wedding.<\/p>\n

\n\tSet and shot in South London and backed by BBC Film and the BFI, \u201cRye Lane\u201d first bowed in Sundance in 2023 before being released by Searchlight in the U.K. and on Hulu in the U.S. Alongside landing critical praise for giving the rom-com genre a whip-smart and and unpretentiously charming update, the film went on to earn 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards (winning two awards) and two BAFTA nominations, including outstanding British film and best actress nomination for Oparah, who co-led the film alongside David Jonsson. <\/p>\n

\n\tSince \u2018Rye Lane,\u201d Oparah has starred in \u201cThe You Run\u201d for Sky Max and the mystery series \u201cDead Hot\u201d for Tubi. Prior to that, she cast out of the National Youth Theatre into a leading role in the hugely successful \u201cDoctor Who\u201d spinoff series, \u201cClass.\u201d She also starred in the critically acclaimed series \u201cI May Destroy You\u201d for BBC One and HBO, and in the feature film \u201cTeen Spirit\u201d released by Lionsgate. <\/p>\n
