Police have extended stop and search powers in one area of Merseyside following a stabbing. Merseyside Police said it has introduced a Section 60 Order in an attempt to “minimise serious violence” in Huyton.<\/p>\n
Merseyside Police<\/a> launched an appeal for information following the stabbing opposite the Shell garage on Liverpool Road, Huyton<\/a>, at around 8.05pm on Wednesday, May 7.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the force said officers received a call regarding an incident involving a group of youths on electric bikes. During the altercation, a 16-year-old boy from Huyton<\/a> sustained a stab wound to his arm, which required stitches in hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, Merseyside Police <\/a>said the teen, who was found at a nearby house, was taken into custody following initial enquiries. He was arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of a bladed article and possession of cannabis<\/a>. He was taken to a police station for questioning.<\/p>\n The order will run for 24 hours and will stay active from 6pm tonight, May 9 until Saturday, May 10 at 5.59pm, to prevent incidents of disorder and criminality.<\/p>\n The Order, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, gives officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals in the area and is designed to minimise serious violence.<\/p>\n The area in Huyton<\/a> incorporates Liverpool Road, Stockbridge Lane, Knowsley<\/a> Lane, Primrose Drive, Blue Bell Lane, Archway Road, Roby Road, Pilch Lane East, Pilch Lane, Dovecot Avenue, Finch Lane, Finch Road, Princess Drive, Deysbrook Lane, Mab Lane, Waterpark Drive and Haswell Drive, including roads and cul-de-sacs within the boundary.<\/p>\n Following yesterday\u2019s order police said there were 30 stop searches and two positive recoveries of cannabis.<\/p>\n Inspector Neighbourhood Policing David Hassett said: \u201cWe\u2019ve extended the S60 as an extra response and to provide us with the powers needed to stop and search people in the area following an altercation which led to a stabbing on Liverpool Road involving a group of males on electric bikes.<\/p>\n \u201cThis Order is one of a number of measures we are taking to disrupt violent and criminal activity. I want to be clear that it isn\u2019t about bothering anyone going about their daily business.
