{"id":882082,"date":"2026-04-09T09:12:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T09:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/882082\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T09:12:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T09:12:17","slug":"dorking-scientists-to-help-launch-spacecraft-in-new-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/882082\/","title":{"rendered":"Dorking scientists to help launch spacecraft in new mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A first-of-its-kind space mission is planning to reveal more about the magnetic bubble surrounding the earth.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Scientists from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory in Dorking, Surrey, will help to launch a spacecraft orbiting more than 120,000 km (74,564 miles) above the North Pole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is hoped the project will help to picture the edge of the magnetic bubble for the first time, while creating data to improve predictions of space weather for future space missions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Dr Colin Forsyth, one of the investigators on the project, said: &#8220;We have never done anything like this before.
