The U.K&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.FTSE\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FTSE 100<\/a>, France&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.FCHI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cac 40<\/a> and Germany&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/DAX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dax<\/a> all edged slightly higher after closing in the red on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the country had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/09\/oil-prices-today-wti-brent-iran-accuse-us-of-ceasefire-breach.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">agreed to negotiate with Lebanon<\/a> &#8220;as soon as possible.&#8221; Tehran&#8217;s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf cited Israel&#8217;s continued attacks on Lebanon as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/08\/ceasefire-iran-war-lebanon.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">violation of the ceasefire agreement<\/a> between the U.S. and Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Asian markets rose overnight following the news, with South Korea&#8217;s Kospi advancing 1.75%, while the small-cap Kosdaq was 1.65% higher.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s Nikkei 225 gained 1.88%, while the Topix was flat. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Friday that the country plans to release 20 days&#8217; worth of oil reserves from May onwards, Reuters reported.
