\n\tScarlett Johansson<\/a> and Harris Dickinson<\/a> are set to make their directorial debuts at this year\u2019s Cannes Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe two actors have concentrated their focus behind the camera for the debuting titles, featuring in Cannes\u2019 Un Certain Regard, announced by Cannes<\/a>\u00a0delegate general Thierry Fr\u00e9maux and president\u00a0Iris Knobloch<\/a>\u00a0at a press conference in Paris on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

\n\tJohansson, best known for her Avengers outings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will premiere Eleanor the Great. It follows a 90-year-old Floridian woman who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a 19-year-old student in New York City and stars June Squibb,\u00a0Chiwetel Ejiofor,\u00a0Jessica Hecht and\u00a0Erin Kellyman.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, Dickinson, Babygirl actor<\/a> and a relative newcomer to A-list stardom, will debut his feature film Urchin, about a drifter (Frank Dillane) on the streets of London. Dickinson is not turning to directing entirely \u2014\u00a0he is set to play John Lennon in Sam Mendes\u2019 Beatles biopics<\/a> for Sony for a 2028 release.<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere, Cannes\u2019 competition lineup is\u00a0packed with auteur heavyweights, including Kelly Reichardt\u2019s The Mastermind, an art-heist drama starring Josh O\u2019Connor and John Magaro, set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War; Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier, who returns to the Croisette after his 2021 The Worst Person of the World<\/a> with\u00a0Sentimental Value, also featuring Renate Reinsve; and dissident Iranian director Jafar Panahi, who will be back in Cannes competition with his latest drama,\u00a0A Simple Accident.<\/p>\n

\n\tHot features this year include\u00a0Wes Anderson\u2019s\u00a0The Phoenician Scheme<\/a> (with Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed and Tom Hanks among others), Richard Linklater\u2019s Nouvelle Vague (Guillaume Marbeck and Zoey Deutch) and Ari Aster\u2019s\u00a0Eddington\u00a0(Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler) also set to premiere on the Croisette.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe festival screened 2,909 features in its selection process, an all-time record.
