Derek Brockway has warned that a “cold front” due to hit Wales within hours will bring some snow over higher ground as well as potentially stormy conditions this weekend.<\/p>\n
The BBC<\/a> weatherman’s forecast marks a stark contrast to pictures seen earlier this week, as families headed to beaches across Wales to bask in glorious sunshine. Mona on Anglesey<\/a> was officially the hottest place in the UK on Tuesday, reaching a maximum of 24.8C<\/a> – the highest temperature recorded in Wales so far this year.<\/p>\n The bright and warm conditions continued on Wednesday, with Bute Park in Cardiff<\/a> also seeing temperatures above 24C. Always keep on top of the latest Welsh news with our newsletter<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n However, the warm spell was only short-lived, with temperatures in some places dropping by as much as 10C on Thursday. Derek has given his followers on X the forecast in light of this abrupt change, and he predicts a very unsettled weekend is on the cards.<\/p>\n Posting on Friday, the forecaster said: “A cold front will bring a spell of heavy rain tonight. Snow on mountain tops.<\/p>\n “Clearing to sunshine & showers tomorrow.<\/p>\n “Heavy showers in places with hail & thunder. Increasingly windy.<\/p>\n “Gales in W & NW Wales afternoon & evening. Gusts 45-60 mph. 60-70 mph in Dyffryn Mymbyr, Eryri.”<\/p>\n According to Met Office weather<\/a> maps, snow is most likely to fall over hills and mountains in mid and north Wales overnight on Friday and into Saturday morning. You can see the weather maps which show the parts of Wales set to be hit by the bad weather this weekend here.<\/a><\/p>\n The Met Office says strengthening winds will herald a band of heavier rain later in the night on Friday. There will be gust winds overnight before the rain clears on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n The forecast states: “Rain soon clearing to the east tomorrow with sunny spells and blustery scattered showers following. These locally heavy with hail and a risk of thunder by the afternoon. Windier.
