{"id":88620,"date":"2025-05-09T23:37:14","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T23:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/88620\/"},"modified":"2025-05-09T23:37:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T23:37:14","slug":"us-automakers-disappointed-in-trumps-united-kingdom-trade-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/88620\/","title":{"rendered":"US automakers &#8216;disappointed&#8217; in Trump&#8217;s United Kingdom trade deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Carmakers are concerned that the United Kingdom trade deal will serve as a template for European and Asian manufactures, but the White House says each deal will be &#8216;tailor made.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;right:0;bottom:0;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/83515856007-20250508-vpc-us-uk-trade-announcement-thumb-getty-00-00-00-00-still-004.jpg\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidplayicon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/icon-play-alt-white.svg.svg+xml\" alt=\"play\" style=\"height:40px;margin:auto 18px auto 27px;width:40px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>President Trump announces \u2018tremendous\u2019 UK trade deal<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with the U.K., the first trade agreement since he imposed sweeping tariffs in April.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>US automakers are &#8216;disappointed&#8217; with 10% tariff on cars imported from the United Kingdom, which they called an advantage over those made jointly in Canada and Mexico.<\/li>\n<li>The White House called the trade agreement a &#8220;good deal.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2013 A group representing major U.S. automakers complained about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politics\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> trade deal giving an advantage to United Kingdom manufacturers, but the White House said it would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/05\/08\/us-uk-trade-deal-trump-announces-agreement\/83508333007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a good deal for them<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n<p>Trump announced a deal May 8 for a 10% tariff on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/05\/08\/trump-tariff-james-bond-cars\/83513661007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first 100,000 cars<\/a> imported each year from the United Kingdom, down from 25% for imports from the rest of the world. That&#8217;s about the number of vehicles Britain exported last year, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>A group representing\u00a0General Motors, Ford\u00a0and Stellantis said the trade deal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanautomakers.org\/american-automakers-statement-trump-administrations-united-kingdom-trade-announcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">would hurt domestic companies<\/a> that manufacture cars or parts in Canada and Mexico.
