{"id":886732,"date":"2026-04-11T11:30:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T11:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/886732\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T11:30:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T11:30:15","slug":"flights-to-the-uk-hit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/886732\/","title":{"rendered":"Flights to the UK hit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>European airports and airlines have complained that the EU\u2019s electronic border control system is causing waits of between <strong>two and three hours<\/strong> during peak times, and called on the European Commission to introduce \u201cgreater flexibility\u201d into its operation.<\/p>\n<p>The Entry\/Exit System (EES), whose full implementation was completed on Friday, electronically records the passport and biometric data of third-country nationals travelling to the EU for <strong>short stays<\/strong> (90 days within a 180-day period).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBorder control authorities must be able to suspend the EES entirely when waiting times become excessive. This is essential not only in the coming weeks, but throughout the <strong>peak <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Summer.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">summer<\/a><\/strong> travel season,\u201d said Oliver Jankovek, director of the Airports Council International Europe (ACI), in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Although the European Commission maintains that, on average, checking in a traveller using this system takes around 70 seconds, European airlines have stated that there have been \u2018significant disruptions to air operations, with passengers missing their flights due to prolonged border checks\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For example, a flight <strong>bound for the UK<\/strong> had 51 fewer passengers at the time of departure.
