Late goals from Gustavo Hamer and substitute Danny Ings denied Hull the chance to strengthen their grip on a Sky Bet Championship play-off place as Sheffield United ran out 2-1 winners at Bramall Lane.<\/p>\n

Two ex-Blades were at the centre of attention for the visitors, with Oli McBurnie\u2019s early goal giving them the lead and John Lundstram receiving a game-changing red card in the second half.<\/p>\n

Following the sending off, United dominated the game and earned an impressive three points against the promotion chasers.<\/p>\n

Hull were the better side in the opening stages and gave the hosts a warning shot within the first minute when Mohamed Belloumi\u2019s strike was deflected over the bar.<\/p>\n

The Tigers did take the lead just five minutes in. Liam Millar drove at the United defence and played in McBurnie, who applied a composed left-footed finish past goalkeeper Adam Davies.<\/p>\n

Lundstram had a go from the edge of the area but Davies got across to push his effort away from goal.<\/p>\n

McBurnie nearly doubled his goal tally in spectacular fashion but Mark McGuinness was there in the nick of time to clear his bicycle kick off the line.<\/p>\n

The Blades started to have some chances of their own just before the interval. First, they went on a counter attack following a corner at the other end but Patrick Bamford could only fire his effort straight at keeper Ivor Pandur.<\/p>\n

Harrison Burrows did well to cross in from the left but Andre Brooks\u2019 close-range header was cleared away by the Hull defence in the last big chance of the half.<\/p>\n

With the hosts pushing for an equaliser in the second half, they were left short in defence on a couple of occasions and would have been punished on a counter if not for a brilliant last-ditch interception by captain Japhet Tanganga.<\/p>\n

Bamford missed from inside the six-yard box after some neat play on the right by Hamer and substitute Jairo Riedewald \u2013 but his blushes were spared by the linesman\u2019s offside flag.<\/p>\n

Lundstram received a second yellow card in the 75th minute for a foul on Brooks.<\/p>\n

United were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute. Substitute Kyle Joseph pulled down Riedewald in the box, referee John Brooks pointed to the spot and Hamer made no mistake.<\/p>\n
