It provides reliable data on border crossings, systematically detecting individuals who have exceeded their authorized stay, as well as cases of document and identity fraud.<\/p>\n<p><b>The system began to be rolled out gradually in October 2025.<\/b>\u00a0Since then, more than 52 million entries and exits have been recorded, with over 27,000 refusals of entry, of which more than 700 individuals were identified as a threat to the security of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" alt=\"Henna Virkkunen Gitex 2026 5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2026041120154336183.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>With the SES operating at full capacity, registering a traveler takes, on average, just 70 seconds\u2014a fraction of the time it took for third-country nationals under previous procedures. As of this Friday, April 10, the system has been fully implemented at all EU external border crossings.<\/p>\n<p><b>Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy,<\/b>\u00a0describes the SES as \u201ca major step forward in strengthening the security of the EU and its citizens. It equips our borders with modern, interoperable, and highly advanced technological systems, reflecting Europe\u2019s commitment to ensuring robust protection of our external borders and overall security. It will enable authorities to detect risks in real time, manage overstays more effectively, and strengthen trust in the Schengen Area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" alt=\"Henna Virkkunen Gitex 2026 6\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2026041120154323081.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><b>First digital initiative for North Africa<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Coinciding with this, the European Commission has also launched a digital transformation program covering North Africa and the countries of the Middle East<\/b>.
