{"id":889588,"date":"2026-04-12T18:51:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T18:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/889588\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T18:51:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T18:51:20","slug":"legendary-penny-lane-institution-confirms-reopening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/889588\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Legendary&#8217; Penny Lane institution confirms reopening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The venue has been shut for some time now as it undergoes a refurbishment<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Dovedale Towers on Penny Lane\" loading=\"eager\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/0_JS281181334.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Dovedale Towers on Penny Lane\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Dovedale Towers on Penny Lane<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A south Liverpool institution has announced its reopening with a \u201cnew chapter\u201d about to begin. 1936 Pubco, the team behind the likes of The Monro, St Peter&#8217;s Tavern and The Vines, have said the Dovedale Towers will open its <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/legendary-liverpool-institution-confirms-new-33303804\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">doors once again in May.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The popular establishment, known affectionately as The Dovey, is found inside an historic 1800s villa which has played an integral part in the city\u2019s rich musical heritage. The venue has served as a children\u2019s home and a church hall where<a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/the-beatles\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\"> Beatles legend Paul McCartney performed as a choir boy.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It first became a pub in the 1960s and was once home to Queen frontman <a aria-label=\"Freddie Mercury, who lived in a flat above the pub Link opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/revisiting-freddie-mercurys-liverpool-links-25599215\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Freddie Mercury, who lived in a flat above the pub <\/a>in the same decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Speaking on behalf of 1936 Pubco, head of marketing, communications and business development Emilia Bona said: \u201cEveryone on our team has been drinking in the Dovey for more years than we can count, so if ever there was a passion project, this is it. It\u2019s a south end legend and we\u2019ll be paying it all due respect and giving it the very best of our love and attention. You will not be disappointed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWe hope, and feel very confident, that the local community will like the significant refreshing of the building\u2019s exterior and garden that we\u2019ll be undertaking. We think all will appreciate the reanimated interior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The pub will be the third opening by 1936 Pubco this year, following on from Hope Street\u2019s The Shandon Bells in January and Victoria Street\u2019s The Queens Arms in March.
