Being Scotland’s largest city, it should come as no surprise that Glasgow is home to many of the country’s most popular and renowned restaurants. For the Daily Record’s latest Restaurant of the Week, we have chosen a venue that is beloved not just by the public but even one of the stars of Outlander.<\/p>\n

Stravaigin is a restaurant and pub situated on Gibson Street in the West End of the city that specialises in gourmet concoctions made using wild ingredients. It dates back to 1994, and has become a staple of Glasgow’s acclaimed and diverse dining<\/a> scene.<\/p>\n

The name of the restaurant comes from the old Scots<\/a> word ‘stravaigin’, which means ‘to wander aimlessly with intent\u2019. It is known for its unique and experimental flavour combinations, producing dishes that are equal parts adventurous and delicious.<\/p>\n

The restaurant has been recognised with many accolades since it first opened its doors, earning praise from the likes of the Michelin Guide and the AA. It has also earned a fan in none other than Sam Heughan<\/a>, who portrays Jamie Fraser in the legendary historical drama series Outlander.<\/p>\n

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express,<\/a> Heughan previously revealed that Stravaigin is among his most loved watering holes in Glasgow. The Scottish actor shared his enthusiasm for the restaurant as part of a guide to Scotland for Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveler.<\/p>\n

Heughan said: “One of my favourite bars in Glasgow is called Stravaigin. It means to wander, or to go for a wee stroll, normally in the hour before sunset. You know, the golden hour. I love that one.”<\/p>\n

The \u00e0 la carte menu at Stravaigin includes small plates such as baked beetroot, Shetland<\/a> mussels, Borders beef feather blade, and Glenfeshie Estate Venison Hache. Among the larger dishes on offer are Loch Melfort sea trout, pork tomahawk, Borders lamb cutlet, and aged ribeye steak.<\/p>\n

There are also many desserts included on Stravaigin’s \u00e0 la carte menu, such as yoghurt panna cotta, forced rhubarb, and affogato, the latter of which is available with Baileys and Frangelico. Also on offer are an ‘ice cream of the moment’ and pineapple cr\u00e8me caramel, as well as Clara goats cheese.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, there is also a Sunday roast menu at Stravaigin that is priced at \u00a334 for two courses or \u00a338 for three courses. Starters include haggis and soup, while the roast itself can either be beef rump or pumpkin\u2014both of which are served with sides such as potato terrine and Yorkshire pudding.<\/p>\n

In addition to earning acclaim from the star of Outlander, Stravaigin is also very popular amongst members of the public. The bar and restaurant currently has an impressive overall rating of 4.6 out of five on Google based on more than 2,100 customer reviews.<\/p>\n

One stated: “From start to finish, our experience was fantastic. The food was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The team here truly elevate the dining experience friendly, accommodating, and genuinely passionate about what they do. It\u2019s refreshing to find a place where the quality of food is matched by outstanding service.”<\/p>\n

Another shared: “What a lovely place, warm, cosy, friendly. Food was delicious. I couldn’t fault our afternoon. Our waitress Meghan was lovely. Highly recommend the Sunday roast.”<\/p>\n
