Police data has revealed the areas in North Wales most blighted by crime \u2013 and those less troubled by violence, burglaries and anti-social behaviour. A ward in Flintshire<\/a> has emerged as the safest in Wales while, just 23 miles away, another in Denbighshire<\/a> is the country’s most crime-ridden.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no great surprise that Higher Kinnerton, Flintshire, is considered the safest ward in Wales: according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), it is amongst the country\u2019s the most affluent.<\/p>\n

In February 2026 the ward suffered three crimes \u2013 two of anti-social behaviour and one involving a \u201cviolence and sexual offence\u201d. In contrast, the Rhyl West ward on the Denbighshire coast registered 188 crimes in the same month, more than 62 times as many.<\/p>\n

Of these, 95 were violence and sexual offences and 47 for anti-social behaviour. Shoplifting was reported on 25 occasions and public disorder 21 times. Neither was it peak month: figures show crimes in Rhyl West are typically highest in August.<\/p>\n

However police crime data can be a blunt tool for defining an area\u2019s safety. For a start, it doesn\u2019t account for severity. Moreover, how safe people feel is more than just a number. Softer factors also play a part, such as lighting, CCTV coverage and sense of security when walking home at night.<\/p>\n

Below are crime rates for wards across North Wales, ranked by lowest crime figures. All-Wales rankings, out of 450 wards, are in brackets. The figures are for police-recorded crimes per 1,000 residents over the past 12 months. The data, compiled by Neighbourhood Finder<\/a>, are correct to March 2026.<\/p>\n
