Liverpool<\/a> have made Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong a top target to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> this summer, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Alexander-Arnold announced this week that he will leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the season<\/a> and is widely expected to join Real Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Liverpool already have Conor Bradley<\/a> as an option at right-back but the newly crowned Premier League champions are expected to strengthen that position in the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n

According to The Times<\/a>, Liverpool have already identified Frimpong as a \u2018leading candidate\u2019 for the position.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s understood that Frimpong, who attracted interest from Manchester United last year, has a \u20ac35 million (\u00a329.6m) release clause in his deal with Leverkusen<\/a> which can be triggered this summer.<\/p>\n

Frimpong was one of Leverkusen\u2019s standout performers in their German league and cup double last season with 12 goals and seven assists across all competitions.<\/p>\n

So far this season, the Netherlands international has four goals and eight assists.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old came through Manchester City\u2019s academy but did not make a first-team appearance before he joined Celtic in 2019.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Rising Ballers<\/a> earlier this season, Frimpong revealed that before joining City\u2019s academy, his first choice was to join Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u2018There were scouts there like Liverpool, Bolton, City, a lot more,\u2019 Frimpong said.<\/p>\n

\u2018But I chose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then, driving wasn\u2019t a thing. My family wasn\u2019t driving and it was far.<\/p>\n

\u2018Obviously, Man City was local, so then I tried Man City next. It made more sense. It was 15 minutes on the bus.\u2019<\/p>\n
