{"id":890627,"date":"2026-04-13T06:35:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T06:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/890627\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T06:35:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T06:35:15","slug":"oxfordshire-councils-shine-light-on-countys-natural-wealth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/890627\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxfordshire councils shine light on county&#8217;s natural wealth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">South Oxfordshire&#8217;s report highlighted the district&#8217;s significant environmental assets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">These included four Special Areas of Conservation &#8211; Aston Rowant, Chilterns Beechwoods, Hartslock Wood and Little Wittenham &#8211; as well as 38 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) covering 1,550 hectares. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It also recorded a national nature reserve at Aston Rowant, known for its floristically rich chalk grassland and beech woodland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The council says it is now managing more than 40% of its own land for nature, and maps out extensive work with local partners including the Local Nature Partnership, National Landscapes, and the Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Recent projects included expanding wildflower meadow trials, reducing mowing regimes, and the &#8220;Let it Bee&#8221; campaign aimed at supporting pollinators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Councillor Mike Giles, cabinet member for Climate Action and Nature Recovery, said nature recovery remains a key priority, with a new Climate Action Fund launching later this year to support community-led biodiversity initiatives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"South Oxfordshire&#8217;s report highlighted the district&#8217;s significant environmental assets.
