{"id":89098,"date":"2025-05-10T03:54:17","date_gmt":"2025-05-10T03:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/89098\/"},"modified":"2025-05-10T03:54:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-10T03:54:17","slug":"australian-beef-surges-into-china-and-united-states-during-trade-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/89098\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian beef surges into China and United States during trade war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Australia exported more than 127,000 tonnes of beef last month, a record for April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The biggest customer was the United States (37,213 tonnes), followed by China (21,572 tonnes).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The record month for Australia comes as beef exports from the <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-04-12\/us-tariffs-war-with-china-australian-beef-exports-up\/105166632\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/105166632\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United States to China have ground to a halt<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">However, many analysts feel it is too early to attribute Trump tariffs and trade wars to the noticeable uptick in exports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Meat and Livestock Australia&#8217;s global supply analyst, Tim Jackson, said the surge in export volumes was fundamentally because of record supply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Last year we saw record beef exports and record beef production [in Australia] and we are well-positioned to achieve that again this year,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;Australia has a large herd, rising slaughter rates and carcass weights have been lifting consistently, so when measured in tonnes, our production is going up and that good supply flows into exports.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Graph from Landline show grain fed beef exports to China\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/08c7f42febec069a1807fbff665f263f\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">China has ramped up its imports of Australian grain-fed beef. (ABC Landline)<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s grain-fed beef binge<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Australia&#8217;s feedlot sector is also on the rise, and last month the nation exported more than 37,000 tonnes of grain-fed beef \u2014 which is a record for any month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">China bought one-third of that product and so far this year has imported about 42,000 tonnes of grain-fed beef from Australia, up 36 per cent on the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Jackson was reluctant to say how much of a role the trade war between the US and China had played.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It&#8217;s difficult to say at the moment, these are fairly early figures and we&#8217;d need to wait for more information to come out and get a better understanding of that trade dynamic,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The tops of red cattle standing close together in a pen.  \" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/fe67930b7f9e5529ed209db5bfaf5208\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">There were 6,200 head of cattle for sale at Wodonga this week, a record yarding for the month of May. (ABC Rural: Annie Brown)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">According to Global Agritrends, beef exports from the United States to China have dried up and Chinese importers recently cancelled orders for 5,500 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It is reporting that other international markets have &#8220;absorbed the lost Chinese volumes&#8221; with South Korea and Japan in particular buying big.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cattle pour into saleyards<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Meanwhile, cattle flooded into southern saleyards of Australia this week as the dry weather forced producers to sell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">There was a record yarding at Wagga Wagga on Monday of nearly 8,700 head.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The national livestock reporting service described it as &#8220;an unprecedented influx of cattle that surprised agents&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"People walking along rows of cattle in pens at the Wodonga livestock saleyards. \" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/ef9c75ff6ddee5d1740bfbcb2ee6754e\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Wagga Wagga and Wodonga also had record yardings this week, with dry weather forcing producers to sell.
