{"id":891003,"date":"2026-04-13T10:42:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T10:42:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/891003\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T10:42:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T10:42:20","slug":"rare-earth-resilience-can-support-uk-e-motor-transition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/891003\/","title":{"rendered":"Rare earth resilience can support UK e-motor transition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Magnet recycling and rare-earth free motors offers the UK an opportunity to establish infrastructure, secure feedstock flows, and support innovation in E-motor technologies, the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) has reported.<\/p>\n<p>The findings come from the Rare-earth resilience for the UK\u2019s automotive industry report from the APC, which found that undertaking such work would strengthen national supply chain resilience, reduce dependence on geopolitically sensitive materials, and position the UK as a leader in the emerging circular economy for critical minerals.<\/p>\n<p>It also discovered that the UK has the potential to meet\u00a0a quarter of\u00a0its magnet demand for automotive applications through magnet recycling by 2035.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The news comes as globally there is a challenge around rare-earth materials with China dominating the industry. More than 90% of the\u00a0refinement\u00a0and manufacturing\u00a0of the rare-earth materials\u00a0is\u00a0undertaken in China, which has caused supply chain risks and vulnerabilities due to the recent tariff and geopolitical issues.\u00a0New rare-earth mines can take\u00a0between\u00a09\u00a0and\u00a015 years to scale up, it added.<\/p>\n<p>There are also innovation opportunities to improve rare-earth resilience of the industry by investing\u00a0in\u00a0non-permanent magnet motors, the APC said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr\u00a0Hadi Moztarzadeh, Head of Technology Trends, APC, said:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe accelerating transition to electric mobility and renewable energy is driving unprecedented demand for rare earth permanent magnets, particularly neodymium (NdFeB) magnets used in high-efficiency\u00a0electric\u00a0motors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPermanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are the dominant E-motor used in\u00a0the EV\u00a0industry due to their superior performance and efficiency.
