{"id":891549,"date":"2026-04-13T16:46:52","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T16:46:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/891549\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T16:46:52","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T16:46:52","slug":"eu-launches-operations-of-critical-minerals-procurement-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/891549\/","title":{"rendered":"EU launches operations of critical minerals procurement platform"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">By Eric Onstad<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">LONDON, April 13 (Reuters) &#8211; The European Union on Monday launched the critical minerals section of its energy and materials procurement \u200cplatform, which aims to give more power to regional buyers and cut \u200cdependence on dominant producer China by aggregating their purchases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The platform is part of the bloc&#8217;s \u200bRESourceEU strategy nL8N3X91DV, announced in December to develop its supply chains for rare earths and other strategic minerals needed for the energy transition and defence applications. China controls up to 90% of output in that sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">OPENED FOR SUBMISSIONS<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The EU&#8217;s Energy and \u200cRaw Materials Platform https:\/\/energy-platform.ec.europa.eu\/ opened \u2060to submissions from buyers on Monday in the first phase of a multi-month process, an EU spokesperson told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The platform \u2060connects buyers with suppliers, but leaves the two sides to finalise trades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The first round of connections between buyers and sellers will start on April 13, the spokesperson \u200bsaid, and \u200bwill focus on &#8220;immediately and soon-to-be-available rare earths, \u200bbattery and defence raw materials&#8221;. \u200cThe results will be announced in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Last year, the EU chose https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/eu-picks-pwc-consortium-minerals-energy-platform-eu-source-says-2025-01-22\/#:~:text=LONDON%2C%20Jan%2023%20(Reuters),a%20document%20seen%20by%20Reuters PriceWaterhouseCoopers and a Slovak software company to develop its 9 million euro platform, which has separate mechanisms for strategic raw materials, hydrogen, and energy products such as natural gas and biomethane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The platform kicked off with hydrogen, which started submissions in November \u200cand announced results https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/newsroom\/ener\/items\/930899\/en on April 1, with \u200b273 match-ups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The REsourceEU plan aims to accelerate \u200bthe bloc&#8217;s Critical Raw Materials Act, \u200bpassed in 2023.
