Click here<\/a> to add us to your Google preferred sources or find out more here<\/a><\/p>\n Jockey Levi Williams has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will be sentenced in June following a brawl in Newmarket High Street last year that resulted in the death of a 71-year-old man.<\/p>\n Police officers were called at 3.40pm on March 8, 2025 to reports of an altercation involving four people outside The Golden Lion pub, during which two men sustained injuries. One of the injured parties, aged 45, was discharged from hospital later that evening, while the other, Richard Wingrove, was taken in a critical condition to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge, where he died ten days later having not regained consciousness.<\/p>\n Williams, 26, and another man, 24, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after being involved in the fight that resulted in the closure of the High Street. They had been drinking in the nearby Waggon & Horses pub between morning and evening shifts at one of the town’s stables.\u00a0<\/p>\n The jockey was rearrested and charged with murder in March last year<\/a>, before a charge of manslaughter was added two months later<\/a> with the murder charge later dropped.<\/p>\n On Friday, Williams pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Peterborough Crown Court and was bailed to reappear on June 4 for sentencing. The 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and a 45-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray have been released under investigation while enquiries continue, according to Suffolk Police.<\/p>\n Before his arrest and charge following the altercation, Williams had been rebuilding his career following an 18-month suspension for testing positive for a second time for cocaine.
