However, unlike in 2025, when partial closures allowed some traffic to pass, this year a full closure will be enforced, requiring all vehicles to use diversion routes.

When will the closures take place?

The closures are scheduled across four periods:

7–11 May

13–18 May

22–26 May

29 May–1 June

Work will begin at 9pm on the first day of each period and is expected to conclude early in the morning on the final day. However, these dates remain subject to change.

Roadworks will involve waterproofing and resurfacing the viaducts, as well as replacing expansion joints.

What alternative routes are available?

During the closures, the Direction Interdépartementale des Routes – Interdepartmental Directorate of Roads (DIR) Centre-East, is advising drivers to follow designated diversion routes:

via the A46 eastern bypass, the northern ring road and the D383

or via the A46, A42 and D383

Motorists are urged to allow extra time for their journeys and expect heavy congestion, particularly during peak travel periods.

Additional closures may worsen disruption

The situation could become even more challenging, as further road closures are under consideration during the same periods. These include sections of the M6 and M7 between the Valvert interchange and junction 1 of the M7.

There are also plans for maintenance work that could possibly result in the closure of the Fourvière tunnel in both directions, a key route through Lyon. If confirmed, this would significantly increase disruption for both commuters and tourists.

The northbound (Marseille–Lyon/Paris direction) to be closed for four weekends Major traffic congestion expected to occur during roadworks…

[3843
728,70,16,15
0":"post-891906","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-environment","8":"tag-environment","9":"tag-science","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
