Sir Ed Davey’s party backed stronger ties with Brussels but said it was “absurd and wrong and undemocratic” to sideline MPs.<\/p>\n

Liberal Democrat MP Munira Wilson told the BBC<\/a>\u2019s Westminster Hour: \u201cWe need a closer relationship with Europe, but we also need Parliamentary democracy. And to cut Parliament out the loop and not have a vote, I think is absurd and wrong and undemocratic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The UK-EU reset legislation enabling the use of the so-called Henry VIII powers is expected to be part of next month’s King\u2019s Speech.<\/p>\n

The plan to allow the use of secondary legislation for dynamic alignment with Brussels has also been criticised by the Conservatives<\/a> and Reform UK.<\/p>\n

Shadow business secretary Andrew Griffith said: \u201cParliament reduced to a spectator while Brussels sets the terms is exactly what the country rejected.<\/p>\n

\u201cLabour\u2019s dire management of the economy has driven Starmer scurrying to Brussels to distract from his own failings.<\/p>\n

\u201cLabour are still fighting the referendum because they fundamentally cannot accept the democratic decision the British people made.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should be seizing the opportunities of Brexit<\/a>, however, Starmer\u2019s weakness on the world stage has made this near-impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reform’s deputy leader Richard Tice<\/a> said the move was \u201coutrageous\u201d and promised his party would \u201creverse such a betrayal\u201d if it won power.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister said the changes will only come into force if Parliament passes the legislation.<\/p>\n

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: \u201cWe\u2019re in a world where there\u2019s massive conflict, great uncertainty, and I strongly believe that the UK\u2019s best interests are in a stronger, closer relationship with Europe, whether that\u2019s defence and security\u2026 energy, inevitably, and also, our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sir Keir added that the legislation will make trade easier, reducing \u201cburdens\u201d on businesses and lowering prices.<\/p>\n
