The UK-EU reset legislation enabling the use of the so-called Henry VIII powers is expected to be unveiled in the King&#8217;s Speech next month.<\/p>\n<p>But the plans have come under heavy criticism from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/conservative-party\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tories<\/a> and Reform UK.<\/p>\n<p>Shadow business secretary Andrew Griffith said: \u201cParliament reduced to a spectator while Brussels sets the terms is exactly what the country rejected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabour\u2019s dire management of the economy has driven Starmer scurrying to Brussels to distract from his own failings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabour are still fighting the referendum because they fundamentally cannot accept the democratic decision the British people made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should be seizing the opportunities of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/brexit\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brexit<\/a>, however, Starmer\u2019s weakness on the world stage has made this near-impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reform&#8217;s deputy leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/richard-tice\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard Tice<\/a> branded the plan \u201coutrageous\u201d and insisted his party would \u201creverse such a betrayal\u201d if it won power.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister, an arch-Remainer in the 2016 referendum, said the changes will only come into force if Parliament passes the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>He told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/bbc\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a> Radio 5 Live: \u201cWe\u2019re in a world where there\u2019s massive conflict, great uncertainty, and I strongly believe that the UK\u2019s best interests are in a stronger, closer relationship with Europe, whether that\u2019s defence and security\u2026 energy, inevitably, and also, our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sir Keir added that the legislation will make trade easier, reducing \u201cburdens\u201d on businesses and lowering prices.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cA stronger, closer relationship with Europe is in the UK\u2019s best interest, particularly in a world that is as volatile as it is at the moment, and I know that worries a lot of people.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"That is likely to mean new rules being rubber stamped by MPs as Parliament can either approve or&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":892689,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5226],"tags":[802,5322,748,2000,299,5187,1699,4884,807,180938,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-892688","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-brexit","8":"tag-brexit","9":"tag-brexit-news","10":"tag-britain","11":"tag-eu","12":"tag-europe","13":"tag-european","14":"tag-european-union","15":"tag-great-britain","16":"tag-keir-starmer","17":"tag-keir-starmer-brexit","18":"tag-uk","19":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/116401267761645813","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/892688","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=892688"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/892688\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/892689"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=892688"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=892688"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=892688"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
