{"id":895469,"date":"2026-04-15T10:26:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T10:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/895469\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T10:26:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T10:26:21","slug":"meteorite-seen-over-kent-sky-before-landing-in-north-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/895469\/","title":{"rendered":"Meteorite seen over Kent sky before landing in North Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Footage shows the moment a meteorite shot through the Kent sky before plunging into the North Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Zahra McLaughlan was looking at her CCTV after problems with anti-social youths when she noticed the bright light on her camera.<\/p>\n<p>It was visible at around 12.25am on Monday (April 13).<\/p>\n<p>Zahra, of Marlowe Road in Larkfield, was left stunned by what she saw and decided to find out what it was.<\/p>\n<p>She told KentOnline: \u201cI was checking back over our security camera and I caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye and wondered what on earth it was, so slowed it down and viewed it again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn&#8217;t really know what it was to be honest, as other meteors that I&#8217;ve seen online haven&#8217;t been as large or as bright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn&#8217;t believe we had captured such a good view of it. Picture: UK Meteors<\/p>\n<p>Someone from the Meteor Network told the homeowner it was a \u201cpretty bright fireball\u201d that went over the North Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte Bays, secretary of the UK Fireball Alliance, said the meteor had been spotted across northern Europe, but finding any material from it was unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;Based on the fireball trajectory, the event occurred over the North Sea so, sadly, we do not expect any recoverable meteorites.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meteor showers occur at regular intervals as the Earth passes through the trail of dusty debris left by comets and asteroids.<\/p>\n<p>This month sees the Lyrids meteor shower, with activity expected to peak next week (April 21-22).<\/p>\n<p>Scientists estimate that about 48.5 tons of meteoritic material falls on Earth each day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Footage shows the moment a meteorite shot through the Kent sky before plunging into the North Sea.
