France boss Didier Deschamps has revealed that Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss this summer\u2019s World Cup after suffering a season-ending injury against Paris St Germain.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old damaged his ankle during the first half of Tuesday night\u2019s 2-0 Champions League quarter-final second-leg defeat by the holders at Anfield and the full extent of the injury became clear on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
In a post on the France national team\u2019s official X account, Deschamps said: \u201cHugo suffered a serious injury on Tuesday night against PSG.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe severity of his injury will unfortunately prevent him from finishing the season with Liverpool and from participating in the World Cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cHugo is one of about 10 young players who have made their debuts for the national team in recent months.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cHe had integrated perfectly into the group, both on and off the pitch. This injury is a huge blow for him, of course, but also for the French national team.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis disappointment is immense. Hugo will get back to his best, I\u2019m sure of it. But I wanted to express my full support for him, as well as that of the entire staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know he will be fully behind the French team and we are all thinking of him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ekitike, a \u00a369million summer signing from Eintracht Frankfurt, was carried from the field on a stretcher 31 minutes into Tuesday\u2019s game with a suspected Achilles tendon injury.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the game, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said: \u201cHugo looks really bad, but it\u2019s difficult for me to say how bad.<\/p>\n
\u201cTomorrow we will investigate this further, (see) how bad this is for him. Let\u2019s see \u2013 but it doesn\u2019t look good.\u201d<\/p>\n
