The FT cited people familiar with the matter saying Key&#8217;s move was not related to the government\u2019s strategic defense review, expected to be published soon.<\/p>\n<p>Key was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2025\/may\/09\/head-of-royal-navy-suspended-pending-investigation\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2025\/may\/09\/head-of-royal-navy-suspended-pending-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">due to retire<\/a> from his position this summer, after serving as the head of the Royal Navy since 2021.
