{"id":89990,"date":"2025-05-10T12:00:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-10T12:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/89990\/"},"modified":"2025-05-10T12:00:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-10T12:00:10","slug":"top-ten-atp-player-slams-the-conditions-at-dangerous-italian-open-and-says-one-court-is-unplayable-despite-winning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/89990\/","title":{"rendered":"Top ten ATP player slams the conditions at &#8216;dangerous&#8217; Italian Open and says one court is &#8216;unplayable&#8217; despite winning"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The 2025 Italian Open is well underway as the stars of the ATP Tour search for success in Rome.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>World number one, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/lorenzo-sonego-tells-fans-what-to-expect-from-jannik-sinner-upon-his-return-from-suspension-after-training-with-him-in-monte-carlo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner\u2019s return to tennis<\/a> has unsurprisingly dominated the headlines ahead of this year\u2019s tournament.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/nick-kyrgios-delivers-his-instant-thoughts-after-jannik-sinner-is-banned-from-tennis-for-three-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner was suspended for three months<\/a> earlier this year, which saw him miss four Masters 1000 tournaments.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2213761587-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Dan Istitene\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-89411\" \/>Photo by Dan Istitene\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Fans in Rome are eagerly anticipating their heroes\u2019 return to competition at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/italian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Open<\/a>, with Sinner set to take on Mariano Navone in his opener on Saturday, May 10.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s return, combined with the other \u2018big\u2019 news this week, has given fans plenty of reason to celebrate in Rome, although not everyone is having the best of times, as one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> star has slammed the conditions at the event after his opening match.<\/p>\n<p>Holger Rune says the courts at the Italian Open are \u2018dangerous\u2019 and \u2018not playable\u2019 after his opening win<\/p>\n<p>Denmark\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/holger-rune\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holger Rune<\/a> beat Francisco Comesana in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, but was angered by the conditions at Super Tennis Arena.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI found the conditions very, very difficult on this court. It\u2019s a new court. It was very tough to move,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s dangerous for the players to play on this court. But I got through, and I am very happy I got through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was playing phenomenal, big respect for [Francisco] Comesana, he has a bright future ahead of him, and from my side, I am happy I found a way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t actually played that many long matches this clay season, so I was happy to test myself. I was happy with my physical level, now it\u2019s about recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2214240943-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Clive Mason\/Getty Images\" \/>Photo by Clive Mason\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Rune expressed his concern at the risk of getting injured on courts he considers to be \u2018not playable\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI maybe used a bit of unnecessary energy on it in the first set [complaining]. But it was very difficult,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Open<\/a>, and we don\u2019t want to risk injuries. I honestly think it\u2019s not playable. That\u2019s my opinion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am from Denmark, and in Denmark, at the beginning of the clay season, we really know what not-ready clay courts look like, so trust me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rune will no doubt hope to be moved onto another court when he returns to take on Corentin Moutet in his third-round match over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Holger Rune improves Italian Open record with win over Francisco Comesana <\/p>\n<p>Rune\u2019s win over Comesana was his seventh in the Italian capital, as he continues to find his best tennis in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>The Danish star is a former finalist at the Italian Open, narrowly coming up short two years ago to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/daniil-medvedev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniil Medvedev<\/a>, having scored
