Councils are required to keep track of children and identify if they are missing from education. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/torfaen\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Torfaen<\/a> education officials, who were presenting information on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/wales-schools\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">school<\/a> attendance at a council meeting, were questioned on &#8216;child missing in education&#8217; procedures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Fairwater <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour<\/a> councillor Jayne Watkins asked how many cases of missing children the department had dealt with. Andy Rothwell, the council\u2019s head of learning and achievement, replied: \u201cThose cases not too many, last year five in total that we explored and shut down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;There were two cases in America.
