Stephen Warnock is not happy with what he has seen from Arne Slot\u2019s Liverpool team during what has been a difficult 2025\/26 season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Reds are ending the campaign without any silverware after losing 4-0 to PSG over two legs in the Champions League.<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s<\/a> Premier League form hasn\u2019t been much better either, sitting fifth in the table with plenty of teams still able to catch them. Now, Warnock<\/a> has highlighted his ex-side\u2019s lack of style under Slot<\/a> as well as their inability to control games.<\/p>\n

Is a fifth-place finish enough to warrant Arne Slot remaining Liverpool manager? <\/p>\n

A lack of a clear style has been one of the main reasons fans are so upset with the Dutch manager<\/a> in 2025\/26.<\/p>\n

If Liverpool were still struggling for results, but there was a clear plan in place and an obvious direction fans could see the team was being taken in, the unrest among the supporters would not be anywhere near as loud.<\/p>\n

However, as Warnock has now pointed out when speaking to the BBC<\/a>, unlike teams such as PSG and Bayern Munich, there\u2019s no style or control.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIf I asked you how Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain play, I think you could tell me exactly the style of football they play.<\/p>\n

\u201cSlot talks about controlled position, they look anything but controlled in a game at the moment and I think that\u2019s a real concern.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey spent \u00a3450m in the summer and look further away from Paris St-Germain than they did last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liverpool system change seems obvious<\/p>\n

While there has been no clear plan in the current campaign, Liverpool will have to change things up next season.<\/p>\n

Without Mohamed Salah, there will be less need to focus on wingers, and Slot could start to deploy a back three or another formation that accommodates two strikers.<\/p>\n

Jeremie Frimpong is well-suited to a wing-back role, and we have already seen that incoming centre-back Jeremy Jacquet can play in a three-man defence.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Liverpool transfer target David Raum<\/a> is an accomplished left-wing-back, while Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Isak would be better used in a 3-5-2.<\/p>\n
