Anti-social behaviour referrals have been made<\/p>\n

People have been urged to stay away from two beauty spots while emergency services tackle a huge fire. Emergency services were called to the incident at a large grassed area and part of the forestry behind Pentre Road, Maerdy, at 5pm on Friday.<\/p>\n

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service brought the fire under control, but some locations reignited on Saturday morning (May 10). Officers from Natural Resources Wales have warned people to stay away from Mynydd Maerdy and Cefn y Rhondda<\/a> for their safety. A spokesman for South Wales Police<\/a> said no arrests have been made in relation to the incident but that anti-social behaviour referrals had been made.<\/p>\n

The spokesman said: “Emergency services were called at 5pm yesterday (Friday May 9) to a fire at a large, grassed area and part of the forestry behind Pentre Road, Maerdy.<\/p>\n

“No arrests have been made, but ASB referrals are to be submitted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Natural Resources Wales officers are at the scene on Saturday continuing to support the fire service.<\/p>\n

A spokesman said: “A wildfire encroached on to the Welsh Government<\/a> Woodland Estate close to Maerdy, Rhondda Cynon Taff yesterday evening (Friday, May 9).<\/p>\n

“South Wales Fire and Rescue Service put the fire under control yesterday, but some locations have reignited this morning (Saturday, May 10).<\/p>\n

“We are urging people to stay away from Mynydd Maerdy and Cefn y Rhondda for their safety.<\/p>\n

“Please do not use the public rights of way through the forests or access the common land close to Maerdy while this incident is ongoing.<\/p>\n

“Our officers are attending the site to provide advice and information to the fire service and assess the damage to the land in our care. We will continue to support the fire service as required to help extinguish this fire.<\/p>\n

“The recent dry spell of weather<\/a> has increased the fire risk at this time. If anyone sees a fire, please report it to the fire service immediately.<\/p>\n

“If anyone witnesses fires being set, they should report their concerns to CrimeStoppers or the Police.”<\/p>\n
