Europe Might Get Hybrid Version<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Audi could hybridize the five-cylinder engine to keep it on sale in Europe. \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The 2.5-liter five-cylinder does not meet Europe\u2019s new emissions regulations. \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Audi\u2019s five-cylinder engine is dead in Europe. Emissions regulations have made it difficult for the automaker to continue offering it on the continent, but it might have a future there. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/audi-could-hybridise-rs3s-five-pot-keep-it-sale-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Autocar<\/a>, Audi Sport boss Rolf Michl told the publication, \u201cWe are open to every possibility\u201d to continue offering the engine when asked about hybridizing the powertrain. \u201cI can tell you we are still thinking in different technological possibilities.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That likely means <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/audi\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22audi%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Audi<\/a> is considering turning the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine into a hybrid. According to Autocar&#8217;s sources, Audi would need to substantially overhaul the engine to meet the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/688359\/euro-7-emissions-standards-watered-down\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22688359%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22euro-7-emissions-standards-watered-down%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Euro 7 emissions regulations<\/a> that take effect later this year. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the rest of us <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/791875\/audi-five-cylinder-engine-continue-outside-europe\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22791875%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22audi-five-cylinder-engine-continue-outside-europe%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">outside of Europe<\/a>, we don\u2019t have to worry about the five-cylinder&#8217;s demise.
