A casualty was rushed to hospital after being rescued from the River Irwell.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called out to the river between Manchester city centre<\/a> and Salford<\/a>, close to Bridge Street, at around 8.30pm last night (May 9).<\/p>\n Five fire engines were sent out to the scene alongside specialist units, while paramedics also attended.<\/p>\n Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) says the person was rescued using a ladder, before being handed to paramedics for treatment.<\/p>\n A GMFRS spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8.30pm on Friday 9 May, five fire engines from across Greater Manchester, along with the drone and Water Incident Unit from Eccles<\/a> Community Fire Station, were called to reports of a person in water near Bridge Street, Salford.<\/p>\n “Crews arrived quickly and used a nine-metre ladder to rescue one casualty, who was then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.<\/p>\n “Firefighters were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.”<\/p>\n —<\/p>\n Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
