Thelo Aasgaard will be a wanted man in the Championship after a stark warning from his international manager<\/p>\n

Luton Town star Thelo Aasgaard has been advised to leave the club by Norway manager Stale Solbakken.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old midfielder is in a group of stand-out players from the three relegated clubs<\/a> who will be on the radar of Championship clubs this summer. Even if finances aren\u2019t particularly pressing for Luton after their recent year in the Premier League it doesn\u2019t mean that they will be able to keep everyone happy.<\/p>\n

Aasgaard only joined from Wigan Athletic in January for a fee of about \u00a33 million, too much at that time to compete for the likes of Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers,<\/a> who were also linked.<\/p>\n

But his immediate international future is at stake if he goes back to play in League One and that will put plenty of Championship clubs on alert.<\/p>\n

Solbakken told NTB<\/a> in Norway: “It was a calculated risk. Luton were in a difficult situation when Thelo changed clubs, but it goes without saying that it is difficult to play for the national team if you play in League One<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows this.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many leagues he can play in. He is a versatile midfielder with good qualities both offensively and defensively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aasgaard was a central figure as Luton found superb form in the last couple of months of the season, albeit too late to stay up, although it did go down to the last day.<\/p>\n

Matt Bloomfield told The Luton News<\/strong> <\/a>recently: \u201cThelo\u2019s top, he\u2019s got top quality in my mind, there\u2019s no doubt. He\u2019s been fantastic in training, he\u2019s got goals in his feet, he can use both feet, can go both ways. I think we saw glimpses in his early games and maybe that\u2019s dialled down slightly in his last couple of games, but he\u2019s really done his defensive work diligently as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThelo has been fantastic for us, he\u2019s been a real good investment for our football club, I believe he\u2019s going to go on and have a top career. He\u2019s going to be a top player, I\u2019ve said it for a number of years in League One that he can make the step up.<\/p>\n

\u201cAthletically he was running away from people as well which is not easy to do when you step up the level. He\u2019s going to be a top player and I hope he\u2019s going to be here for many years too and help drive this club forward. He\u2019s a player of considerable football intelligence,<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s really spatially aware, he knows when he needs to bump a player and protect the ball, he knows when he\u2019s got a minute to do his magic and get away from someone. He\u2019s been a top performer in the division below, he\u2019s played in this division before and I have real belief that he will go and step up. He\u2019s a boy that we believe can have a real big future for us. We can\u2019t heap too much on him, but on the evidence, he\u2019s doing just fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
