A suspected Hungarian drug trafficker, featured on the European Union\u2019s \u2018most wanted fugitives\u2019 list, has been arrested in Mexico, Al Jazeera reported.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, 18 April, Mexican Security Minister Omar Garc\u00eda Harfuch announced that 48-year-old Hungarian citizen J\u00e1nos Balla, who goes by the alias \u2018D\u00e1niel Tak\u00e1cs\u2019, had been detained<\/a> in the southern state of Quintana Roo.<\/p>\n Balla has been sentenced to six years in prison for smuggling narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances within the European Union. According to Garc\u00eda Harfuch, Balla was the subject of an Interpol red notice, which calls on law enforcement authorities worldwide to assist in the arrest of a suspect.<\/p>\n In a joint statement, the Mexican agencies involved in the arrest credited their collaboration with Hungarian authorities for helping to secure Balla\u2019s detention.<\/p>\n \u2018Based on the exchange of information with Hungarian security agencies, as well as intelligence and investigative work, [Balla\u2019s] mobility zone was identified in the municipality of Benito Ju\u00e1rez, where a coordinated operation was implemented, resulting in his arrest on Polit\u00e9cnico Avenue,\u2019 it said.<\/p>\n \u2018Balla\u2019s high-profile arrest is the latest in the Mexican administration\u2019s crackdown on drug traffickers\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The statement added that Balla was placed in the custody of Mexico<\/a>\u2019s National Institute of Migration \u2018in order to determine his immigration status and continue his controlled deportation process to Europe\u2019.<\/p>\n Balla\u2019s high-profile arrest is the latest in the Mexican administration\u2019s crackdown on drug traffickers.
