The iconic designer came into the world during the height of the Second World War, growing up surrounded by the tranquillity of the countryside.<\/p>\n
It was at the age of 15 that Westwood made the move to London, where she would remain for the rest of her life, steadily carving out her place in the fashion world.<\/p>\n
Her rise to prominence came when she began creating clothes for the boutique she ran with her then-husband Malcolm McLaren, famously known as Sex.<\/p>\n
The shop earned a formidable reputation for its provocative designs and played a defining role in shaping the punk movement of the 1970s, bolstered by McLaren’s band, the Sex Pistols.<\/p>\n

She eventually opened four stores across London, with her brand subsequently transforming and expanding nationwide.<\/p>\n
The label went on to achieve enormous global recognition, with bespoke designs worn by some of the world’s most influential figures and countless celebrities.<\/p>\n
The merchandise frequently championed her favoured political movements, including the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, climate change activism and various social causes.<\/p>\n
Westwood only returned to Tintwistle following her death at 81 in 2022. Though she spent her final days at her Clapham home, the designer’s funeral took place at Christ Church in the Derbyshire village where she was raised.<\/p>\n

The church was reportedly adorned with 45 metres of MacLeod Harris Tweed tartan, an iconic print synonymous with the designer, costing approximately \u00a345,000.<\/p>\n
She was subsequently laid to rest in the village, with her final resting place at St Mary the Virgin Churchyard.<\/p>\n
To celebrate her life’s achievements and the artistic legacy she left behind, the Vivienne Westwood brand unveiled its autumn\/winter 23\/24 collection entitled ‘Tintwistle’. The collection paid tribute to the creative’s early origins and its rural aesthetic.<\/p>\n
Campaign photographs were captured in and around the village to reflect the authentic roots of where both the individual and the brand truly originated.<\/p>\n

Adding further personal significance, amongst the first models to present the collection was Westwood’s granddaughter, Cora Corr\u00e9.<\/p>\n
Beyond Westwood’s legacy, the village itself is a charming destination, well-loved by walkers drawn to the breathtaking moorlands and dramatic peak scenery that surround it.<\/p>\n
