{"id":908645,"date":"2026-04-21T09:24:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T09:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/908645\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T09:24:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T09:24:23","slug":"selfridges-boosts-pay-for-shop-floor-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/908645\/","title":{"rendered":"Selfridges Boosts Pay for Shop Floor Workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Selfridges has boosted its shop floor workers&#8217; pay by more than 6% to align with the Real Living Wage, which is set at \u00a314.80 per hour in London and \u00a313.45 for the rest of the UK.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/ads\/dropit-mob-pu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Dropit-ad-The-Industry-300x250-1.png\" class=\"no-lazy-load wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The department store introduced the independently calculated Real Living Wage, which is a voluntary pay measure and not mandatory for employers in London, from 1 April.<\/p>\n<p>Selfridges joins a number of UK retailers, including M&amp;S, John Lewis and Primark, that have introduced pay boosts for their retail employees.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/ads\/dropit-desktop-pu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Dropit-ad-The-Industry-720x300-1.png\" class=\"no-lazy-load wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/ads\/tif-summit-ad-mob-bb-pu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"625\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/MOB-POPUNDER-300-x-250-px-9.gif\" class=\"no-lazy-load wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pay boost coincides with the government&#8217;s mandatory increase to the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage starting 1 April. For those aged 21 and over, pay rose by 4.1% to \u00a312.71 per hour.<\/p>\n<p>In March, <a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/ms-boosts-store-worker-pay-by-6-4-but-drops-real-living-wage-pledge\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marks &amp; Spencer announced that it would increase pay for its 55,000 retail staff<\/a> by at least 6.4%, raising wages to \u00a313.41 an hour nationwide, or \u00a314.74 per hour for those based in London.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/ads\/tif-summit-ad-dt-pu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Pop-Under-9.gif\" class=\"no-lazy-load wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the same month, <a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/primark-to-increase-pay-for-all-uk-retail-staff\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Primark also said it would increase its hourly pay for all retail employees<\/a> to \u00a313 across England, Scotland and Wales, while workers in London will receive \u00a313.71 per hour. The <a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/john-lewis-staff-set-for-pay-hike-amid-108m-investment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Lewis Partnership also pledged to hike pay<\/a> for its shop workers by 6.9%.<\/p>\n<p>Also in March, <a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theindustry.fashion\/harvey-nichols-and-j-d-williams-among-hundreds-of-employers-named-for-failing-to-pay-minimum-wage\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the government published a list of 389 employers from across the UK<\/a> that it was publicly calling out for failing to pay workers the legally binding National Minimum Wage. The list named both Harvey Nichols and J.D.
