A leading national retailer has unexpectedly shut its doors after its landlord repossessed the property.<\/p>\n
Hobbycraft in Strood Retail Park has suddenly closed in what is being reported as a temporary move.<\/p>\n
Signs have gone up on the doors of Hobbycraft in Strood, revealing the landlord has taken over the property<\/p>\n
Notices in the shop windows reveal property owner Ropemaker Properties Ltd has retaken possession of the unit.<\/p>\n
It has also been secured to prevent access, with landlords allowed to do this when a tenant breaches the terms of the lease.<\/p>\n
It opened in 2021<\/a>, but the closure comes a month after it was confirmed nine \u201closs-making\u201d stores will be axed \u2013 including one in Canterbury<\/a>.<\/p>\n 126 jobs are set to be axed, while negotiations over rent reductions are currently underway with the landlords of 18 other stores.<\/p>\n Strood was not one of those earmarked for closure.<\/p>\n \u201cI went today and was disappointed to see it closed,\u201d said one customer on Facebook yesterday evening.<\/p>\n \u201cThe staff there are lovely and always really helpful, I hope this is resolved soon for their sake,\u201d added another.<\/p>\n Community page The Sew In Group said on Facebook: \u201cWe were sad to hear the recent news about Hobbycraft Strood – it\u2019s always a shame when changes affect a well-loved creative hub.\u201d<\/p>\n Hobbycraft bosses apologised for the inconvenience, with customers advised to visit the nearest alternative branch in Maidstone.<\/p>\n There are now seven shops in Kent; Orpington, Canterbury, Crayford, Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford <\/strong>and Thanet.<\/p>\n The firm has been contacted for further comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A leading national retailer has unexpectedly shut its doors after its landlord repossessed the property.
