nearly half a million pounds to buy out the tenant of two street food kiosks that are in the way of <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/new-images-show-major-changes-10602725#comments-wrapper\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">major changes to Broadmead<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The authority, which owns the land at St James Place, next to Primark, is <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/major-broadmead-transformation-see-more-10813047\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">upgrading the junction where Union Street meets The Horsefair<\/a>, Lewins Mead and Rupert Street, as part of a <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/majority-back-plan-pedestrianise-horsefair-9964093\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">wider transformation of the city centre<\/a> over the next few years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This includes <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/bristolonthemove.com\/news\/transforming-a-key-junction-in-broadmead\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">thousands of new homes, pedestrianisation schemes<\/a>, and dedicated lanes for public transport, cyclists, wheelers and walkers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The two kiosks \u2013 Cornish Bakehouse and Rana\u2019s Dhaba Junction \u2013 have been vacated after the council agreed to pay the tenant \u00a3440,000, which is how much they would have received had the current leases continued until their end date in 2032.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The deal also includes a third, unnamed on-street outlet rented by the same leaseholder in Merchant Street at the request of the tenant, which will be maintained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" website said the St James Place booths were physically in the way of the new road junction layout.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It said: \u201cPossible relocation of the St James Place kiosks was considered, however no suitable locations could be found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cFurthermore following a survey of the kiosks it was decided that they were not class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/democracy.bristol.gov.uk\/documents\/s122389\/01.%20Committee%20Report%20CRSTS%20Update%20FINAL.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">agreed to secure vacant possession of the food takeaways<\/a> at the north end of Union Street in May 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Bristol City Council<\/a> spokesperson said: \u201cThere are two kiosks in St James Place, both of which have been vacated \u2013 Cornish Bakehouse and Rana\u2019s Dhaba Junction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThese will be demolished in the coming months to make way for the new junction layout.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe kiosk on Merchant Street will continue to operate as it does today \u2013 we will not be disclosing its name at this time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cOther things happening in the area which are worth noting replaced in preparation for the new junction layout;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWe are commissioning an artist to work with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Money for the whole city centre project is from a huge pot of government cash given to the West of England Combined Authority called the City Region Sustainable Transport
