TRAVELLERS have set up camp near a popular Scots beauty spot for the second time in a year \u2013 despite residents forking out hundreds of pounds to stop them.<\/p>\n

Caravans<\/a> appeared at Huly Hill in Newbridge, Edinburgh<\/a>, on Monday afternoon as the encampment was set up.<\/p>\n

It is the site of the Standing Stones and a 3,000-year-old ancient cairn, which dates back to the Bronze Age.<\/p>\n

By Tuesday morning, eleven caravans had set up on the ancient site despite efforts to stop them.<\/p>\n

The Newbridge and Ratho Station Community Association had forked out hundreds of pounds to install concrete barriers after the area was trashed by two groups of travellers last year.<\/a><\/p>\n

Council crews had to pick up piles of rubbish, bin bags, fridges, tyres and even human waste<\/a> after the groups were moved on by Sheriff Officers.<\/p>\n

Locals also claimed rodents were tearing into bags of food left behind by the groups.<\/p>\n

But despite the new barriers, it is claimed the new group broke through a fence to gain access to the site.<\/p>\n

Photos of the new encampment show multiple caravans, motors<\/a> and gas<\/a> canisters at the historic site, which is described by Historic Environment<\/a> Scotland<\/a> as being of national importance.<\/p>\n

The City of Edinburgh Council has confirmed that officers will be visiting the site tomorrow.<\/p>\n

In July last year, we told how residents of the village were left furious<\/a> after discovering the mess left around the area when travellers last set up camp.<\/p>\n

Gus MacKerracher, who is a member of the Newbridge Association, slammed the group\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

At the time, he said<\/a>: \u201cWe\u2019re all absolutely disgusted.<\/p>\n

\u201cFood bags have been burst open, seagulls<\/a> and rodents have spread more mess everywhere while trying to get into them.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything has been left in these big piles for about 50 yards. It\u2019s trailer loads of rubbish.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve left fridges, tyres and bits of fence that were\u00a0broken<\/a>\u00a0off so they can get in.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people were even defecating in the woods.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWe just want to stop this kind of thing from happening.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe area is very popular with dog walkers and everyone local respects it.\u201d<\/p>\n
