It has been five years since Prince Harry<\/a> and Meghan Markle<\/a> stepped down from their Royal duties, but they have retained their Royal titles.<\/p>\n

Although they are no longer permitted to use the titles Her Royal Highness and His Royal Highness, a decision made in 2020, they remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Sussex title was a personal gift from Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day, and despite the couple’s occasional criticism of the Royal family, there has been no move by the monarchy to strip them of this title.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, some Royal fans have called for its removal.<\/p>\n

However, King Charles cannot simply take away the title as it was a personal gift from his late mother and would require an act of Parliament to revoke it.<\/p>\n

According to a Royal expert, as Harry is a prince by birth, he would still be entitled to use the title of prince even if the Sussex title were to be taken away.<\/p>\n

Ingrid Seward, Editor-in-Chief of Majesty Magazine, told The Royal Beat: “I don’t think anything will happen to the titles because, if they lose their titles, Harry is still a prince of the blood and Meghan instead of being the Duchess of Sussex, [would] be Princess Henry. That really would [confuse the Americans].<\/p>\n

“I think [it’s] probably best just to leave it because it looks unkind, it looks unnecessary.”<\/p>\n

The expert remarked: “The (late) Queen gave them the titles, let them keep them – they’re going to be ‘H and M’ anyway.<\/p>\n

“I think the best thing is to leave them, ignore them, and let them get on with it – which is really what the Palace and the Royal Family are doing.”<\/p>\n

Despite stepping back from Royal duties, Meghan discussed the significance of the Sussex name in her Netflix series ‘With Love, Meghan’, expressing its personal value.<\/p>\n

When addressed as Meghan Markle<\/a> by her friend and fellow actress Mindy Kaling, the duchess, aged 40, corrected: “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle<\/a>. You know I’m Sussex now.<\/p>\n

“You have kids, and you go, ‘no I share my name with my children’…I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go ‘this is our family name, our little family name’.”<\/p>\n

Furthermore, she shared with People: “It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognised how meaningful that would be to me until we had children. I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together.
