A recount is now underway following the Barton and Winton by-election today (Wednesday, April 22) and we’re expecting a result shortly.<\/p>\n

Six candidates are standing for the seat in the ward, which is in the Salford City Council area.<\/p>\n

The council confirmed counting had finished at around 11.50pm on Wednesday, however it is close and a recount is now underway.<\/p>\n

There were 1,941 votes cast in the by-election, a turnout of 17.82%.<\/p>\n

The candidates standing in the Barton and Winton byelection are: Kirsty Anne Downie (IND); Antony Ian Duke (LIB DEM); Michael James Felse (REFORM); Catherine Goodyer (LAB); Jack Groom (GREEN); and Holly Ann Muldoon (CON).<\/p>\n

The by-election – which comes just under two weeks before Barton and Winton residents head to the polls<\/a> again to take part in the May 7 Local Elections – was called to elect a new councillor following the death of England\u2019s longest serving councillor David Lancaster.<\/p>\n
