A multi-agency search operation has been launched for a missing swimmer off the Co Donegal coast.<\/p>\n

A member of the public raised the alarm shortly before 4pm on Saturday that there were people in difficulty in the water near Buncrana.<\/p>\n

One person was taken from the water and brought to hospital by ambulance during the incident believed to involve three young men.<\/p>\n

One swimmer is still missing, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The search is being led by the Irish Coast Guard, supported by a Coast Guard helicopter from Sligo.<\/p>\n

The Donegal North units of An Garda Siochana and the ambulance service are also at the scene.<\/p>\n

The RNLI said they were also supporting the search.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalin Head Coast Guard are co-ordinating a search for a missing swimmer off Buncrana, Co Donegal,\u201d a spokeswoman for the Department of Transport said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn alert was raised shortly before 4pm by a member of the public who reported that there were a number of persons in difficulty in the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreencastle & Mulroy Coast Guard Units were tasked along with both Lough Swilly RNLI lifeboats and the Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 118 from Sligo.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne person has been taken from the water and brought to Letterkenny hospital by an HSE ambulance. Their condition is unknown.<\/p>\n
